Living in a FROZEN world…

So its been pretty cold here lately.  Actually, not so much cold as blisteringly frigid.  Like “I just got nervous of frostbite forming on my face during the two block walk to my building from the parking garage” kind of frigid.  And, it’s actually considerably warmer in the city (at all of 8 degrees with real feel of -3) than it is at home (4 degrees with real feel of -14).  Brrrrr…..

But that isn’t the FROZEN I’m talking about.  Nope, I’m talking about Anna, Elsa and Olaf.  Maddie may only be 19 months old, but she is completely and utterly obsessed (OBSESSED!) with that movie.  She wakes up in the morning and asks for “Fwoozen.”  She watches it in the mornings on the way to daycare.  She watches it in the afternoons on the way home.  And we have a long commute so she gets to watch almost the whole thing about 1.5 times every day.  If we don’t turn the DVD player on quick enough when we get in the car, she yells at us to “Watch It.”  When we get home, she asks to watch Naaaaannnaaaaa, Elsaaaaaaaa, and Olafffuh.  Again.  DJ and I get it.  It is an awesome movie and we know every word to the dialogue and songs.  And we sing them all with her.  She has learned a ton of the words and sings more of the songs every day…  her versions go a little like this:

Do You Wanna Build a Snowman: “Snowwmayynnnnnn….. Playyyyyyyy.  Awaayyyyyy”
Let it Go: “Let it GOOOOOOOO, Let it GOOOOOOOO…… Mooooooore”
Love is an Open Door: “Wif you wif you wif you”
In Summer: “In summmmiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrr. La la la la laaaaaaaaaa”
The best part of all is that even though we have seen it about a hundred bazillion times at this point (at least it seems that way), we still get a kick out of her singing and her fascination with it each day.  And it is only fitting that she would love Anna.  They are kindred spirits with the white streaks in their hair!  I’d be lying if I said we weren’t trying get her to branch out a bit.  We’ve tried other movies (How to Train Your Dragon 1 & 2, Boxtrolls, Finding Nemo, Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp, etc.).  She has seemed to gain a little interest in Brave but for now, she is utterly devoted to FROZEN!
Just got home from daycare after being sent
home with a stomach bug.  Still smiling though
and having a blast playing with Mommy’s

The past few weeks have been relatively consumed by illness.  Poor Maddie has suffered from 2 GI bugs in the past month, one of which ended her up in the hospital after a febrile seizure.  I know they say they are the body’s natural way of bringing a high fever down and that they are safe and don’t cause brain damage.  But they scare the living sh*t out of you.  There was no better sight for us than when she finally threw the stuffed animals they gave her back at the doctors at the ER and yelled ‘Nooooooooo.’  Phew!  I guess the good news is that we know how to handle them now should it ever happen again, and we know anytime she gets even a small temperature, that we need to be pretty aggressive with the Tylenol and Motrin regimen.  Throw teething on top of it (4 canine teeth all trying to pop through simultaneously) and she’s had a pretty icky month.  The last few days have been much better though thank goodness.  Of course DJ and I have both had our ups and downs too with colds and fevers as well.  Needless to say, if we don’t have to go back to the doctor or hospital in the next year or so (for anything other than wellness checks), that would be too soon!
Playing in her ball pit with Daddy!
In other super exciting news, I am so happy to say that my amazing hubby has gotten a new job and started last week.  I’m so proud of him and can’t wait to see all the amazing things he will do there!  Even better, he is now 2 blocks away from me!!!  We’ve met up every day to have lunch and it has been awesome 🙂    We’ve also broken ground on the last projects on the interior of the house.  Let’s be honest, DJ and I don’t know how to not have a DIY project going on.  First up will be to finish the bonus bedroom in the basement out as an office/library/cigar lounge/poker room.  The other is to turn the unused closet that is under the stairwell in the basement into a wine cellar.  We’re going to be making use of both new and old.  In addition to the new stuff that we’ll buy, we are going to use of reclaimed wood and pieces from the awesome antique and salvage places around us.  We are so excited to get going and work on this over the next month or two.  Hopefully everything will be done and ready to enjoy in the spring!  Of course, I’ll be documenting everything along the way and having tutorials on how we put everything together.  So be sure to stay tuned for it.
